Tips for Staying in Shape

After you’ve spent countless hours and effort to reach your goals and get your body back into shape, it’s important to create a lifestyle that allows you to maintain and stay in shape.  Creating a consistent workout and eating routine is one of the best ways to ensure that you continue and maintain your fitness level and stay in shape.

Keeping up with a fitness routine can be especially hard when you are doing your workout at home vs. attending a class at the gym.  Whether you attend a gym or workout at home here are some great tips for including daily physical activity into your lifestyle as well as general tips for staying fit:

  • Make your workout time one of entertainment as well.  To help you keep your motivation and to make your workouts more enjoyable consider trying one of the following:
    • Watch TV.  Whether walking on a treadmill, lifting weights, or cycling you can enjoy your favorite TV shows while working out.  With DISH deals and various programming options you can DVR your favorite show and watch it while completing your workout.
    • Listen to music.  If your workouts are more mobile create a great play list, put in your ear buds and workout to your favorite tunes.
    • Work out with a friend.  It’s much more fun when you have a workout buddy.  Whether it’s walking together or attending a class at the gym it’s always more fun when you’re not alone.
    • Continue to set goals.  While you may have reached that long planned for goal it is still important to set goals to reach for.  Maybe your goals simply become completing a workout a specific number of times a week.
    • Watch your diet as well as your exercise.  While you won’t pile on the pounds as quickly when you have a consistent exercise routine, letting your diet turn to sugar and junk food most definitely will begin to counteract any good you are doing with a workout routine.
    • Get plenty of water.  Water is a necessity for your body.  It helps to make your body work and run effectively.  The goal should be to be constantly drinking water throughout the day, not just when you are exercising.
    • Finally, make sure you are getting enough sleep.  It is during your sleep cycle that your body rejuvenates itself.  Without the proper amount of sleep your body suffers in many ways.  When you start to feel sluggish you’ll for sure know that you are in need of a little extra sleep.

If you follow these simple tips, and continue on the path of health you started to reach your initial goals you’ll find that incorporating healthy activities and healthy eating into your lifestyle becomes easier and easier as it becomes a daily habit.
